The House and Senate introduced the Santini-Burton Modernization Act (H.R.7255/S.3695) to increase funding to protect the environmentally sensitive Tahoe Basin, including by improving lake clarity, mitigating impacts from recreation, and reducing wildfire risk. Rep. Kevin Kiley (R-Calif.), along with co-sponsors Reps. Dina Titus (D-Nev.) and Susie Lee (D-NV), introduced the bill in the House. Sens. Catherine Cortez Masto (D-Nev.), Jacky Rosen (D-Nev.), Alex Padilla (D-Calif.), and Adam Schiff (D-Calif.) introduced the bill in the Senate.
Reps. Bob Latta (R-Ohio) and Doris Matsui (D-Calif.) introduced the Securing Community Upgrades for a Resilient Grid Act (SECURE Grid Act) (H.R.7257) to safeguard the country’s energy infrastructure. The bill would require states to assess electric grid risks from extreme weather, aging infrastructure, and cyber threats in their respective State Energy Security Plans, which are submitted annually to receive State Energy Program funds. Sens. Catherine Cortez Masto (D-Nev.) and John Curtis (R-Utah) introduced the Large-Scale Water Recycling Reauthorization Act (S.3693). The bill would extend the Bureau of Reclamation’s Large-Scale Water Recycling Program, which supports large-scale water recycling projects in the Colorado River Basin and the rest of the western United States. Reps. Susie Lee (D-Nev.) and Juan Ciscomani (R-Ariz.) introduced the House version of the bill (H.R.6204) in November.
Sens. Ruben Gallego (D-Ariz.), Alex Padilla (D-Calif.), and Mark Kelly (D-Ariz.) introduced the Water Security and Drought Resilience Act (S.3732) to strengthen drought preparedness and recovery infrastructure. The bill would reauthorize the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act’s Small Storage Program, which funds small surface water and groundwater storage, and create a grant program for projects that increase water availability.
