EPA Proposes Renewable Fuel Standards for 2013

This week, the EPA proposed volumetric standards for biomass-based diesel, advanced biofuels, cellulosic biofuels, and total renewable fuels that must be blended into the nation’s transportation fuel supply in 2013. In the meantime, the oil industry is opposing the EPA’s implementation of the Renewable Fuel Standard (RFS) each step of the way, and it is trying to get Congress to repeal the law.

Doing Corn Better and Doing Better than Corn for Biofuels: Recent Developments in the Field

Like it or not, corn and corn ethanol production are large, established industries in the U.S. While they provide significant economic, energy, and environmental benefits for our society, they also come with significant costs. Looking ahead, the question is how can we do corn and corn ethanol better, with reduced environmental costs, and start doing better than corn, by transitioning to more sustainable, diverse, multi-functional agricultural systems. Here are some recent developments in the field.
