Farm Bill Hearings Continue: The Senate Committee on Agriculture, Nutrition, and Forestry held a hearing to examine the conservation and forestry programs of the 2023 Farm Bill, while the House Committee on Agriculture held a hearing on how uncertainty, inflation, and regulations impact agriculture. EESI tracks all the climate, environment, and energy highlights of the 2023 Farm Bill hearings on our Farm Bill page.
Composting as Conservation: The COMPOST Act (H.R.651) was introduced in the House. The bill would officially designate composting as a conservation activity and provide financial support for composting programs. EESI’s article, “Biochar and Compost for Climate Change Adaptation and Mitigation,” discusses the benefits of compost in preventing methane emissions from food waste.
Energized by Hydrogen: Senators introduced several bills relating to hydrogen development last week. S.646 would establish a Hydrogen Technologies for Heavy Industry Demonstration Program, while S.647 would support hydrogen- and ammonia-fueled equipment usage at ports. Meanwhile, S.648 would establish a grant program for demonstrating the performance of hydrogen-fueled heavy duty fuel cell vehicles. Finally, S.649 would establish a finance and innovation pilot program for hydrogen infrastructure.
