Highlights:
The House passed the Agriculture, Rural Development, Food and Drug Administration, and Related Agency Appropriations Act of 2027 (H.R.8646), largely along party lines. The bill would provide $22.5 billion to the U.S. Department of Agriculture through September 2027 to fund agricultural research, rural development programs, nutrition programs, and other initiatives.
The House passed two bipartisan bills to streamline permitting processes for geothermal energy. The Committing Leases for Energy Access Now (CLEAN) Act (H.R.1687), reintroduced by Reps. Russ Fulcher (R-Idaho), Celeste Maloy (R-Utah), and Lauren Boebert (R-Colo.), would increase lease sales for geothermal projects. Rep. Jeff Hurd’s (R-Colo.) Geothermal Energy Advancement Act (H.R.5631) would expedite review processes for these projects while establishing standards for environmental responsibility.
The House passed the Cross-Boundary Wildfire Solutions Act (H.R.3922). Rep. Joe Neguse (D-Colo.) reintroduced the bill alongside Reps. Young Kim (R-Calif.), Josh Harder (D-Calif.), and Jay Obernolte (R-Calif.) to facilitate cooperation between federal, state, local, tribal, and private entities on wildfire risk reduction. Sen. Ruben Gallego (D-Ariz.) leads the companion bill (S.2033) in the Senate.
The House passed the Northwest Straits Marine Conservation Initiative Reauthorization Act of 2025 (H.R.2860). Reps. Rick Larsen (D-Wash.) and Emily Randall (D-Wash.) reintroduced the bill to permanently reauthorize the Northwest Straits Commission in the Puget Sound in Washington and fund it with $10 million per fiscal year through 2031. Sens. Patty Murray (D-Wash.) and Maria Cantwell (D-Wash.) lead companion legislation (S.1433) in the Senate.
The House Appropriations Committee advanced the Transportation, Housing and Urban Development, and Related Agencies Appropriations Act of 2027 (H.R.9170) and the Department of the Interior, Environment, and Related Agencies Appropriations Act of 2027 (H.R.9171).
