Highlights:
Rep. Adam Schiff (D-Calif.) introduced the Renewable Roadsides Act (H.R.7424) in the House. The bill would mandate a joint study by the Department of Transportation and the Department of Energy on the viability of repurposing landscapes immediately adjacent to federal highways for solar energy generation and storage. It would also address land use and conservation concerns often associated with energy projects.
Reps. Andrea Salinas (D-Ore.) and David Valadao (R-Calif.) introduced the Rural Partnership and Prosperity Act (H.R.7444), which would increase rural communities’ access to federal funding through the creation of rural partnership program grants and technical assistance grants. Sens. Bob Casey (D-Pa.) and Deb Fischer (R-Neb.) introduced companion legislation (S.3309) in the Senate in November 2023.
