Highlights:
This week, President Biden signed the Migratory Birds of the Americas Conservation Enhancements Act of 2023 (P.L. 118-51) into law. The bill, led by Reps. María Elvira Salazar (R-Fla.), Rick Larsen (D-Wash.), Dave Joyce (R-Ohio), and Mary Peltola (D-Alaska), will reauthorize and bolster a congressionally mandated grant program for habitat conservation, research and monitoring, and education.
The House Committee on Energy and Commerce advanced the Promoting Resilient Supply Chains Act of 2023 (H.R.6571) to the House floor for a vote. Reps. Larry Bucshon (R-Ind.) and Lisa Blunt Rochester (D-Del.) introduced the bill, which will strengthen domestic supply chains through improved, comprehensive mapping and monitoring – including for the critical minerals required for clean energy technologies. Reps. Darren Soto (D-Fla.) and Scott Franklin (R-Fla.) introduced H.R.8138, a bill that would establish a disaster response training program within the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA). The program would provide technical assistance to farmers and ranchers after natural disaster events. Reps. Mike Garcia (R-Calif.) and Jennifer McClellan (D-Va.) introduced the Advanced Capabilities for Emergency Response to Operations (ACERO) Act (H.R.8118) in the House. If passed, the National Aeronautics and Space Administration’s ACERA program would develop and improve the use of drones to combat wildfires.
