Highlights:

The Sea Turtle Rescue Assistance and Rehabilitation Act of 2023 (H.R.2560/S.2086) passed the House. Reintroduced by Rep. William Keating (D-Mass.) in the House and by Sens. Ed Markey (D-Mass.) and John Cornyn (R-Texas) in the Senate, the bipartisan, bicameral bill establishes a grant program to fund the recovery and rehabilitation of stranded marine turtles and to bolster related research and monitoring.

The Chesapeake Bay Science, Education, and Ecosystem Enhancement Act of 2023 (H.R.4770) also passed the House. Reintroduced by Reps. John Sarbanes (D-Md.), Bobby Scott (D-Va.), Rob Wittman (R-Va.) and Jen Kiggans (R-Va.), the bipartisan bill supports the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s efforts to restore the Chesapeake Bay, improves fisheries management, and increases educational opportunities.

The Migratory Birds of the Americas Conservation Enhancements Act of 2023 (H.R.4389) passed out of the Natural Resources Committee and is scheduled for a vote on the House floor. Introduced by Reps. María Elvira Salazar (R-Fla.), Rick Larsen (D-Wash.), Dave Joyce (R-Ohio), and Mary Peltola (D-Alaska), the bipartisan bill reauthorizes and increases funding for the Neotropical Migratory Bird Conservation Act, which awards grants for habitat conservation, research and monitoring, and education.

The Expanding Public Lands Outdoor Recreation Experiences (EXPLORE) Act (H.R.6492) will also head to the House floor for a vote after passing out of the Natural Resources Committee. Introduced by Reps. Bruce Westerman (R-Ark.) and Raúl Grijalva (D-Ariz.), the bipartisan EXPLORE Act will improve access to and experience with recreation on federal public lands and waters.
