Charity Navigator, the nation’s top evaluator of non-profit charity organizations, reaffirmed the Environmental and Energy Study Institute’s (EESI’s) outstanding achievements with yet another coveted Four Star Charity rating and an impressive 99 percent score, an increase over recent years!

This latest award represents the 14th time EESI has earned the Four Star Charity designation. Charity Navigator says that this is an indication that the public can “give with confidence” to EESI.

There is no doubt that a gift to EESI is an important, high-impact investment in advancing climate solutions.

Charity Navigator determined the score by evaluating EESI on three “beacons” or areas: Accountability and Finance; Culture and Community; and Leadership and Adaptability. The latter two are newer areas in Charity Navigator’s system for evaluating nonprofits.

  • For Accountability and Finance, Charity Navigator evaluated EESI’s financial efficiency and trustworthiness, as well as our commitment to a high standard of governance practices and policies. EESI scored 100 out of 100 points.
  • The Culture and Community beacon recognizes EESI’s strong commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and justice, based on the implementation of diversity, equity, and inclusion practices that Charity Navigator identifies as important. It also recognizes consistent effort to gather and implement feedback from those we serve. This includes Congressional staff, briefing speakers and attendees, email subscribers, and donors. EESI scored 94 out of 100 points.
  • The Leadership and Adaptability beacon celebrates EESI’s dedication to our mission, vision, and goals. This includes providing for staff professional development, collaborating with other organizations, and sharing the story of how we adapted to changes due to the pandemic. EESI scored 100 out of 100 points.

While Charity Navigator does not yet evaluate policy-based nonprofits for their fourth beacon, Impact and Results, you can rest assured that EESI remains a high-impact contributor that is dedicated to accelerating equitable, science-based climate solutions.

With an unmatched dedication to outstanding nonprofit performance, EESI is proud to have maintained its Four Star Charity status. EESI also maintains a 2023 Platinum Seal of Transparency on Candid (formerly Guidestar) and is a 2023 Top Rated Nonprofit according to GreatNonprofits. EESI is more determined than ever to keep working toward a sustainable, resilient, and equitable world thanks to the partnership of institutional and individual donors.
