| BACKGROUND
EESI’s Energy and Climate Program supports policy changes and strategies that will allow the United States and other countries to mitigate climate change while reaping the environmental, economic, national security and public health benefits of energy efficiency and renewable energy technologies. EESI works towards policies and practices that will mitigate climate change by 1) Promoting development and use of energy efficient technologies (in every sector) and renewable energy resources, including biomass, geothermal, solar, small hydro and wind; 2) Educating policymakers about innovative climate change policies adopted by state, local and foreign governments and their benefits; 3) Educating policymakers about actions on climate change being taken by private sector companies and by key constituents such as the religious community; 4) Advocating energy efficiency and renewable energy policies and measures as cornerstones of national and state energy policy; and 5) Building coalitions of vital stakeholders in consumer, business, environmental, religious, energy policy, governmental and academic organizations. In essence, we seek to “change the political climate for climate change” and to help foster a low carbon energy revolution.

ENERGY AND CLIMATE CONGRESSIONAL BRIEFINGS
EESI’s highly respected and well-attended Congressional forums create issue visibility and play a unique and vital role in the policy process. They are thoughtfully designed and feature the top experts in each field. They spur hearings, develop Congressional leadership, and spawn media coverage and affect policy positions. Senior Congressional staff and the many groups we work with are extremely supportive of our briefings and have asked EESI to do more briefings – they believe this kind of education and visibility is critical. Our briefing panels provide a variety of perspectives to a broad audience.
