*Biodiesel users are represented by the letter B and a number indicating the ratio of biodiesel to petroleum diesel mixture used in fleet operations. For example, B20 represents a fuel mixture composed of 20 percent biodiesel to 80 percent petroleum diesel. The higher the ratio of biodiesel to petroleum diesel, the cleaner the emissions.

**Funding support for the purchase and operation of alternatively fueled buses is provided by federal, state and local sources. Federal sources include grants and loans from the Federal Transit Administration, the Congestion/Mitigation and Air Quality Act (CMAQ), the Department of Energy and other federal agencies. State support is often provide through the state department of transportation, the state department of energy, state initiatives & programs, and other sources. Local funding sources include local initiatives and taxes, the operating budget of the public transit agency often provided through the local municipality and other sources. Private funding refers to capital investment in partnership with privately-owned firms, contracting with such firms, and other such funding support mechanisms.
