Charity Navigator, America’s leading nonprofit evaluator, has released its most recent evaluation of the Environmental and Energy Study Institute (EESI), and EESI once again earned the highest designation: Four Star Charity! Beyond earning its place as a Four Star Charity, EESI earned—for the first time ever—100 out of the 100 points possible in both categories considered by Charity Navigator: financial health and accountability and transparency.

According to Charity Navigator, only about 1.8 percent of the organizations rated Four Star Charities have achieved a perfect score (there are currently about 55 organizations with perfect scores out of the nearly 3,000 organizations that have earned the prestigious Four Star Charity designation). Charity Navigator states that "this exceptional designation from Charity Navigator sets Environmental and Energy Study Institute apart from its peers and demonstrates to the public its trustworthiness."

And, of the 420 environmental organizations assessed on the strength of their financial management, transparency, ethics, and governance, EESI is one of only six to have earned a perfect score!

In all, Charity Navigator rates 1.5 million American charities—ten times more than any other nonprofit evaluator. Kiplinger’s, Forbes, and Business Week, among other publications, have highlighted Charity Navigator’s data-driven evaluation methodology.

We are very proud of our status as a Four Star charity—we have been recognized as a Four Star Charity for the ninth time in the past 10 years. "This rating by Charity Navigator confirms that—especially during this critical time of threats to the environmental policies so essential to the future—EESI programs are effectively managed and mission-driven by its dedicated Board and staff," said EESI Board Chair Jared Blum.

David Robison, EESI’s Director of Finance and Administration, knows firsthand how important sound finances and effective management are to the mission and execution of sustainability: "At EESI, we charge ourselves with extending the same passion for sustainability, credibility, efficiency, and effectiveness exhibited in our core work to our governance and financial areas. It is an honor to be consistently rated a Four Star Charity.”
