House and White House at Odds over Spending for the Military’s Biofuel Future

The United States needs to reduce dependence on petroleum for a host of economic, energy, and environmental security reasons. Even the Pentagon is concerned about the military’s own vulnerability to volatile global oil prices and supply disruptions. The President is seeking to accelerate the military’s shift to advanced biofuels, and the fledgling domestic advanced biofuels industry would welcome a long-term commitment from such a big potential customer. But the House and Senate are moving to put a lid on the price the Pentagon can pay for these alternative fuels.

House Agriculture Committee Holds Hearing on Energy Programs

On May 18, the Subcommittee on Conservation, Energy and Forestry of the House Committee on Agriculture received testimony on agricultural energy and forestry programs. Witnesses on the energy title presented testimony in support of renewing funding for the Biobased Market Program, the Biorefinery Assistance Program, the Bioenergy Program for Advanced Biofuels, the Biodiesel Fuel Education Program, the Rural Energy for America Program, and the Biomass Crop Assistance Program.

June 21: 15th Annual Congressional Renewable Energy & Energy Efficiency EXPO + Policy Forum

On June 21, the Sustainable Energy Coalition — in cooperation with the U.S. House of Representatives and U.S. Senate Renewable Energy & Energy Efficiency Caucuses — will host the 15th Annual Congressional Renewable Energy & Energy Efficiency EXPO + Forum. The EXPO is free, open to the public, and no RSVPs are required. The events will be held on Thursday, June 21, 9:30am-4:30pm in the 345 Cannon House Office Building (Cannon Caucus Room).
