House Approves New Budget Plan: Implications for Bioenergy Programs?

On March 29, the House approved a budget resolution that would cut an estimated $3.5 trillion in federal spending over the next ten years below current spending levels. The resolution instructs the House Agriculture Committee to come up with a plan by April 27 to cut spending for programs under its jurisdiction by more than $33 billion over the next ten years.

Senator Harkin Proposes Energy Title for Next Farm Bill

The 2008 Farm Bill expires this year. The Senate Agriculture Committee is considering which nutrition, agriculture, conservation, and energy programs to reauthorize or amend for the next five years – or terminate. Political pressure is on to reduce overall spending. The future of programs in the energy title is uncertain.

Biomass Crops for Conservation, Energy Security, and Jobs: A Briefing

On March 26, EESI held a briefing on Capitol Hill by a panel of agricultural experts and innovators. The panel discussed the role that perennial biomass energy crops can play in addressing the nation’s environmental, energy, and economic challenges, as part of multi-functional agricultural systems.
