Forest Health Scores Major Victory in 2018 Congressional Spending Package

On Friday, March 23, President Trump signed the $1.3 trillion omnibus spending package that funds the government through the remainder of FY2018. Although the President’s FY2018 and 2019 budget requests have called for draconian cuts to environmental and clean energy programs at EPA, the Department of Energy and elsewhere, funding levels for these programs were by in large preserved by Congressional appropriators. Importantly, the bill contains one long-sought major bipartisan victory for forest health – a solution to the disastrous effects of ‘fire borrowing’ on American forests.

Support Needed: Rural Energy for America Program - Driving Renewable Energy, Energy Efficiency Investments

The Rural Energy for America Program (REAP) was created in the 2002 Farm Bill. Since its inception, this program has helped 15,000 farmers, ranchers and rural small businesses produce clean energy, cut energy costs, and boost rural economic development. REAP has continually enjoyed bipartisan support. If your organization is interested in expressing your support to this important program, consider signing this letter to House and Senate Agriculture Committee leaders to urge them to support REAP in the upcoming farm bill.  EESI is a signatory and has been involved with REAP since its inception. The deadline is March 23.
