Senate Agriculture Committee Announces Hearing on Farm Bill Energy Programs

Will federal programs critical to the development of sustainable bioenergy and the bioeconomy be renewed in the next Farm Bill? The authorization for current programs will expire at the end of 2012. The Senate Agriculture Committee will start hearings soon.

Science Panel Continues Review of EPA Bioenergy Carbon Accounting Framework

The Biogenic Carbon Emissions Panel of the EPA Science Advisory Board continued its deliberations last week. At stake is whether and how EPA will regulate CO2 emissions from stationary bioenergy systems such as biopower plants, ethanol refineries, and pulp and paper mills that use biomass residues for heat and power. The panel reviewed and received public comments on its draft report which assesses the EPA’s proposed framework for accounting for CO2 emissions.
