The 17th Annual Congressional Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency EXPO and Policy Forum was hosted on July 31, 2014, by the Sustainable Energy Coalition, of which EESI is a founding member. The 2014 Expo brought together more than 40 businesses, sustainable energy industry trade associations, energy policy research organizations, and government agencies to showcase the status and growth patterns of renewable energy and energy efficiency technologies, including biofuels/biomass, geothermal, solar, water, wind. In every state across the country, these technologies are having a significant impact in business development and job creation in the manufacturing, transmission, power, transportation, and building sectors.

The morning program featured Members of the U.S. Congress and throughout the day speakers discussed the role sustainable energy technologies can play in meeting America’s energy needs. As Congress, the Administration, the business community, environmental advocates, and American voters search for options to stimulate the economy and “green jobs,” as well as address issues of national security, higher energy costs, increased reliance on energy imports, and the environmental threats associated with energy consumption, the EXPO helped address the role that sustainable energy technologies might play. This includes not only the technical aspects of renewable energy and energy-efficient technologies but also related issues such as economics, jobs potential, environmental benefits, current and near-term market potential, model programs in the public and private sectors, and institutional, financial and legal barriers.
