Policy Analyst, Transportation and Sustainable Communities Programs
Responsibilities:
- Coordinate activities of the Transportation and Sustainable Communities Programs, whose issues include, but are not limited to, transit, advanced vehicle technologies (e.g. plug-in vehicles and hybrids), flexible fuel vehicles/biofuels, alternative strategies (e.g., idling reduction), and smart growth, all in pursuit of the larger goal of climate change mitigation.
- Lead authorship of EESI’s Clean Motion newsletter, a monthly electronic newsletter which provides an overview of clean transportation projects and current policy activities to a network of more than 1,400 stakeholders including local transit authorities, Clean Cities coalitions, local policy and decision makers, federal agency officials, clean bus manufacturers, and others.
- Track federal policy and relevant news.
- Serve as liaison to Congressional offices.
- Research and report on federal legislation.
- Produce briefing summaries, reports, press releases, news articles and policy documents.
- Represent EESI in meetings with other organizations.
- Attend and report on Congressional hearings, briefings and meetings.
- Establish and maintain contacts on Capitol Hill, in federal agencies, trade associations, and public interest groups.
- Maintain and update program’s database, website and communications system.
- Organize Congressional briefings on pertinent science, technology and policy issues.
- Public speaking.
- Assist in fundraising for the program.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree preferably in environmental science, policy or a related field.
- Masters or minimum 3 years experience working in energy or environmental policy. Transportation experience preferred.
- Hill experience recommended.
- Strong writing and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work well independently or in teams.
- Strong computer skills, preferably with database and website experience.
- Ability to meet deadlines and work well under pressure.
- Self-starter, flexible and able to manage multiple tasks.
