Job Description
Organization
Overview:
The
Environmental and Energy Study Institute (EESI) is a non-profit
organization established in 1984 by Congressional leaders,
dedicated to promoting environmentally sustainable societies in
the areas of renewable energy/efficiency, climate change,
transportation/smart growth, and agriculture and energy.
Its primary focus is on national policy and policymaker
education. EESI
effects change by producing credible, timely information and
innovative policy ideas and through coalition building, media
outreach, publications, Congressional briefings/workshops and task

The
Communications office serves
as liaison to Congressional offices, media and other interested
parties to expand EESI’s network, forge new relationships, and
notify them of EESI’s upcoming events and latest publications.
It is responsible for maintaining and managing EESI’s
database of more than 6,000 contacts and works closely with
program staff to take care of outreach and coordinating logistics
for EESI events. In
the near future, the office will also begin expanding EESI’s
media network and outreach efforts.
The
Development office is responsible for coordinating with program
staff, the Communications Coordinator and the Executive Director
to cultivate relationships with potential funders, supervise
program operations and the fulfillment of contracts, increase
organizational visibility and explore additional funding methods.
Intern Responsibilities:
- Assist
with the outreach for and execution of Congressional briefings
and events
- Post-briefing
audience analysis and database maintenance
- Explore
creative ways to engage and expand EESI’s network
- Develop
press relations and research appropriate media outlets
- Write/edit
articles for newsletters and draft letters to potential
funders
- Keep
EESI’s website up-to-date with the latest news and briefing
information
- Research
funding sources- foundations and potential corporate
associates
- Develop
targeted fundraising appeals and assemble information for
potential donors
- Other
responsibilities as they develop/based on intern interest
areas
Intern Qualifications:
- Upperclassmen
currently pursuing a bachelor’s degree or those pursuing a
master’s degree in communications, journalism, politics,
environmental studies, or a related field
- Interest
in environmental and energy issues, with particular enthusiasm
for the communication of pertinent information to
policymakers, coalition partners, funders, and other
interested parties
- Strong
writing and research skills
- Self-starter,
flexible and able to manage multiple tasks
- Excellent
computer skills or ability to quickly learn various computer
programs including: Microsoft programs (Excel, Outlook and
Word), Dreamweaver and database programs
- Effective
interpersonal communication skills
- Ability
to work in a team or independently as needed
- Creativity
and openness to expressing new ideas and capacity to produce
questions that will further EESI’s mission
Internship
Application Requirements:
EESI
internships require a commitment of 25-40 hours per week for 10-12
weeks, with a possible extension. Please specify the time
period during which you seek to intern. Citizens of any nation
