EIA Reports Substantial Increase in Renewable Energy Generation

According to the U.S. Energy Information Administration's Electric Power Monthly report released on October 3, 2008, the United States has dramatically increased its generation of energy from renewable sources over the last year. Net generation of hydroelectric conventional power increased by 34.7 percent, and other types of renewable sources (including wood, waste, geothermal, solar, and wind) by 23.6 percent. The net generation of both coal and petroleum decreased. As a whole, renewable energy accounted for 11 percent of the total energy generated in the United States in June 2008, a 2.4 percent increase since June 2007.
