9th Annual Water
Symposium:
How Secure are Water
Facilities from Terrorist Actions?
Registration and Continental
Breakfast: 8:15 a.m.
The Environmental and Energy Study Institute, the Federal Water Quality Association and the American Water Resources Association’s National Capital Chapter invite you to our 9th annual Congressional water symposium. This year’s symposium will focus on the vulnerability of the nation’s drinking water and wastewater facilities. Since September 11, water utilities have been reassessing their security procedures and important consideration must be given to the long-term security and well-being of the nation's drinking water and wastewater facilities infrastructure. While the threat of public harm from an attack on the nation's water supply is small, a variety of agencies and groups are working to ensure that water in the United States have access to the best scientific information and technical expertise in an effort to assess each utility's vulnerability to a terrorist attack, improve security, and determine the immediate steps to take should an attack occur.
Senator James Jeffords (I-VT), Chair of the Senate Environment and Public Works Committee, is the symposium’s keynote speaker. The symposium will feature three panels of experts who will examine the variety of ways in which to protect the nation’s drinking water and wastewater facilities.
