Panel Summary:  Overviews of the recent groundbreaking studiesEnergy [R]evolution - A Blueprint for Global Warming by Greenpeace/DLR (German Aerospace Center), and Tackling Climate Change in the U.S.: Potential U.S. Carbon Emissions Reductions from Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency by 2030 by the American Solar Energy Society (ASES), will set the stage for this discussion and underscore the urgency and ability of addressing climate change through energy efficiency and renewable technologies.  The second portion of this panel examines technologies in use now and how their impact over the next 10 years can be further leveraged with responsive climate change legislation.  The panel will close with audience Q & A.

1:15 – 2:30 p.m.          Panel Discussion—Global Competition: Where We Are, Why Other Countries are Ahead of the Game, and How the United States Can Catch Up.

Panel Summary:  Although the U.S. is a leader in EE/RE technology research and business development, some companies are leaving the U.S and countries such as those in the European Union and Japan have jumped far ahead in market share.  What role does U.S. policy play in the domestic and global marketplace for EE/RE industries?  How can we create a better climate for these businesses to grow and flourish in the U.S. and the broader international market?  To answer these questions, the following EE/RE industry leaders will provide brief overviews of their technology sector and its viability, a synopsis of the economics involved (size of scale, return on investment, readiness of the market, etc.), and note specific ways in which policy can foster productivity and innovation.  The panel will close with audience Q & A.
