189 Russell Senate Office Building
If
U.S.
manufacturers are to remain competitive they must adopt
technologies that increase their productivity and efficiency.
The Industrial Technologies Program is a partnership
among the federal government, industry and states to fund
research, technology development and the deployment of
technologies that enhance energy efficiency and productivity.
Industry consumes 36 percent of all energy used in the
United States
. The technologies and
process efficiency improvements developed in this program make our
industries more competitive, reduce emissions, and introduce new
technologies. They
also help create and retain jobs in our economy.
Investments
in new efficient technologies also hold the promise of alleviating
demand pressure that could moderate high and volatile oil and
natural gas prices.
A
panel will discuss the measurable benefits that this
public-private partnership has achieved in bringing to market
energy-efficient production technologies that improve
competitiveness while reducing environmental impacts.
Panelists will explain the program’s significance,
outline what is at stake for
U.S.
manufacturers, and share the perspective of states on the
importance of investing in efficient manufacturing.
