Fuel Cell Policy Roundtable

Wednesday, October 1, 2003
10:00 - 11:30 am , G-50 Dirksen Senate Office Building

The US Fuel Cell Council (USFCC) and the Environmental and Energy Study institute convened a briefing on fuel cell development in the United States .  The fuel cell industry is moving quickly to commercialize this technology for powering everything from cellular phones and laptop computers to homes and businesses, as well as cars and buses.  Fuel cells and hydrogen technology have been the focus of considerable attention and bipartisan support on Capitol Hill – all the recent blackouts have only increased interest in distributed generation from technologies such as fuel cells.  As Congress considers several energy-related legislative measures that include fuel cell and hydrogen provisions, this briefing will offer an update on recent advancements and the hurdles that must be overcome to move the technology forward.

Briefing Panel:

Ø Senator Conrad Burns (R-MT) offered introductory remarks.

Ø Robert Rose , Executive Director, US Fuel Cell Council, presented an overview of
the current state of the fuel cell industry and offered a vision of the path forward.
