Security of your Personal Information

EESI is committed to protecting the security of your personal information. Physical, electronic and managerial procedures have been employed to safeguard the security and integrity of personal information. We use a variety of security technologies and procedures to help protect your personal information from unauthorized access, use, or disclosure. For example, we store the personal information you provide on computer systems with limited access, which are located on our secure, in-house network server. When we transmit highly confidential information (such as a credit card number) over the Internet, we protect it through the use of encryption, such as the Secure Socket Layer (SSL) protocol.

Collection of your Personal Information

EESI collects personal information online, including names, postal and e-mail addresses, phone and facsimile numbers, and interest areas from individuals seeking to be added to EESI information distribution lists. If you wish to be added to or removed from any of our newsletters, event notices, or other bulletins, or you just need to update your information, please send your e-mail requests to eesi@eesi.org or send us a fax at 202-628-1825.  We will be happy to make those changes usually within 5 business days. The EESI web site provides opportunities for you to sign-up to receive free electronic newsletters, briefing and other event notices. All of the registration information you provide will be securely stored on EESI’s server.

Please keep in mind that if you disclose personal information through EESI group communications with other organizations or other public online forums, this information may be collected and used by others. EESI cautions you against providing personal information to strangers online, which they may use for illegal or harmful purposes.

EESI keeps track of how visitors access the information on our web pages in order to determine what EESI pages and services are the most popular and how we may make improvements to our web site.

Use of your Personal Information

EESI collects and uses your personal information to deliver the services you have requested. EESI uses your personal information to inform you of events, briefings or services available from EESI.  We also may contact you occasionally via surveys to conduct research about your opinion of our current services or of potential new services that may be offered or to request financial support of EESI programs.

EESI does not sell, rent or lease its customer lists to third parties. EESI may, from time to time, contact you on behalf of other organizations or agencies as part our outreach agreements to announce other events or briefings that may be of interest to you. In those cases, your personal information (e-mail, name, address, telephone number) is not transferred to the third party.

EESI may access and/or disclose your personal information if required to do so by law or in the good faith belief that such action is necessary to: (a) conform to the edicts of the law or comply with legal process required by any third-party donation service; (b) protect and defend the rights or property of EESI; or (c) act under exigent circumstances to protect the personal safety of users of EESI services or members of the public.

Personal information collected on this site is stored and processed in the United States. EESI abides by the safe harbor framework as set forth by the U.S. Department of Commerce regarding the collection, use, and retention of data from the European Union.

Donations via EESI’s Website

Donations to EESI via EESI’s website are processed by Groundspring.org. Groundspring uses Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) technology to encrypt all data submitted to and from our site over the web. SSL renders donors' personal information, including credit card numbers, virtually unreadable to anyone who intercepts it. SSL is supported by all major browsers, including Microsoft Internet Explorer and Netscape Navigator. (To find out if your browser is connected to a secure transaction server, look for a solid gold key in the lower right-hand corner of a Netscape browser. For a Microsoft browser, look for a locked padlock.) Groundspring also employs fraud protection at the time a donation is made due to concern about growing credit card fraud via the Internet. In particular, they will now verify credit card donations by requiring the "Card Security Code," a three-digit code on the back of most cards.

Groundspring.org never sells, trades, or rents donor information, and their site has security measures to prevent the loss, misuse, or alteration of donor and donation data. Additionally, donors have the option to give anonymously to EESI.
