2007 National Summit on Energy Security with Senator Richard G. Lugar

On July 12, 2007, the 2020 Vision Education Fund and the CNA Corporation held the second annual National Summit on Energy Security at the National Press Club in Washington, DC., the Environmental and Energy Study Institute (EESI) supported the organization of this event. The theme of the 2007 National Summit was "National Security and America's Addiction to Carbon: Solutions to Oil Dependence and Climate Change." The promising potential on plug-in hybrid electric vehicles was discussed.

Senator Richard G. Lugar (R-IN) delivered a major policy address and received the first annual Energy Security Leadership Award presented by former Director of Central Intelligence R. James Woolsey. Other speakers included former Senate Majority Leader Tom Daschle, Air Force Asst. Secretary William Anderson, National Association of Evangelicals Vice President Richard Cizik, Energy Conversion Devices founder Stan Ovshinsky, General Motors Legislative Director Keith Cole, and Sherri Goodman of the CNA Corporation. After the Summit a reception and presentation by artic explorer Will Steger on his recent four-month, 1,200-mile dogsled expedition of Baffin Island, Nunavut to learn about the effects of global warming was held.
